What is Behavioral Parent Training?

Behavioral Parent Training (BPT) is an evidence-based form of therapy that focuses on helping caregivers better understand and respond to their child’s behavior. Rather than working only with the child, BPT supports parents in learning practical strategies to promote positive behavior, strengthen the parent–child relationship, and reduce patterns that can contribute to ongoing challenges at home or school.
BPT is commonly recommended for children with ADHD and related behavioral difficulties. Sessions are structured and skill-based, with an emphasis on understanding behavior in context, practicing new strategies, and applying them consistently in daily routines.

Parents Can Expect:

  • A structured, skills-based group format

  • Clear explanations of why behaviors happen and how to respond effectively

  • Opportunities to reflect, ask questions, and problem-solve with other caregivers

  • Practical strategies that can be used at home and adapted to each family’s context

This is a therapy group, not a lecture or parenting class. Active participation and between-session practice are an important part of the process.

Who this group is for:

This group is designed for caregivers of children ages 5–12 who:
  • Have been diagnosed with ADHD or are in the process of evaluation

  • Are interested in learning structured, evidence-based parenting strategies

  • Are able to participate in weekly sessions and practice skills between meetings
